The cornerstone of Cox’s community efforts is support of our local schools. Cox
broadens classroom experiences through the deployment of educational technology. Cox supports education by providing staff, volunteers, mentors, finances, scholarships, special programs and technical resources. Indeed, Cox is excited about the future and all the innovative and creative ways we can serve the community.
Teachers, students and administrators know that they have a partner with Cox Communications. Providing Cable in the Classroom service to over 400 public, private and parochial schools in Orleans, Jefferson, St. Bernard and St. Charles parishes is just the beginning of our efforts. Cox provides one free cable installation and free monthly basic cable service to all 400 public, private and parochial schools
in the parishes we serve.
This initiative enables schools to receive more than 540 hours of commercial-free educational television programming each month. Educational programming is complemented with a free copy of Access Learning, an educational programming resource guide for teachers and librarians. Cox also offers frequent educational workshops, awards programs, art and writing contests, unique initiatives, readings, storytelling and numerous other events.
Cox New Orleans unique Cox Plugged In initiative is a comprehensive outreach that attempts to inform and partner with educators in various capacities – print, electronic, television and on-line. The CPI initiative recognizes that communication is essential for the success of a company’s outreach to the education communities it serves. Annually, Cox publishes and distributes 20,000 monthly copies of the informative and award-winning local newsletter Cox Plugged In. The CPI
newsletter is distributed to teachers, library/media specialists, instructional specialists and school administrators in the four-parish area. These publications provide information on course work, lesson plans, study guides, teacher grants, contests, news, educational resources plus unique programs and opportunities for schools, teachers and students.
Television definitely gets the Cox educational message out to the community. The Cox Plugged In TV show is an informative, fast-paced and energetic hour program that promotes the good things happening in education and the community on a local level. Cox annually auditions over a hundred students to fill the student positions on the Cox Plugged In TV program. Selected student learn to produce segments, create news packages and discuss the show’s many topics, subjects and educational issues.
