Cox Charities Goals and Our History:
Cox Charities awards grants each year to eligible 501(c)(3) organizations, which share Cox's focus on the education and development of our area youth.
Cox Communications formed Cox Charities to handle fund raising and fund granting to youth-oriented, education and development programs run by non-profit, 501(c)(3) organizations.
Cox Charities grant recipients are carefully chosen through a rigorous screening process of many applicants throughout the year. Funds are targeted to programs that help meet the areas pressing needs for the education, development and support of our youth.
Cox Charities Giving Objectives:
Our focus is on education and development services that help empower our youth and provide them with the tools they need for long-term success. Target areas include:
Science and technology
Arts and culture
Healthy, active lifestyle choices
Social issuesWe also participate in partnerships and cooperative efforts with organizations that share our commitment to these objectives.
How the Funds Are Raised:
Cox Communications holds a variety of fundraising events throughout each year to generate funds for Cox Charities. Fundraisers include annual golf tournaments, raffles, promotional benefit events and our yearly Cox Charities campaign. A large portion of Cox Charities funding comes from employee contributions.
Cox Charities Grant Applicants:
Current exemption under 501(c)(3) of the IRS code through the Greater New Orleans Foundation.
Benefit the areas served by Cox Communications New Orleans and must be located in the Greater New Orleans area.
Work with other agencies in the public and private sectors and leverage other public or private funding
Measure and continuously evaluate the effectiveness of its programs
Fill a recognized need in the community without unnecessary duplication of others' efforts
Practice sound fiscal policies and responsible financial management
Grant Application Review Process:
Grant applications are reviewed annually by the Cox Charities Advisory Committee. Funding decisions are based on the quality of applicant programs, particularly those serving youth in the areas of education and social services. Additional considerations include the scope of each program and the overall impact on the community, the number of people served, and the validity and urgency of needs addressed. Preference is also given to programs that provide a unique service, not being duplicated in the Valley.
Limitations:
The target population to be served is: Children ages 7 14. We generally do not provide grant support to:
Individuals
Political campaigns
Labor or fraternal organizations
Individual schools or association chapters
Organizations which discriminate
Religious organizations
Endowment funds or foundationsOther limitations may apply and will be evaluated on an individual basis.
